10th Anniversary of Our Rebuilt Branch Library,
April 20, 2013

In honor of our 10th Anniversary, we focused on the history of our Encino-Tarzana Branch:

library

Fontayne Holmes spoke on Library History: Ms. Holmes was the City Librarian of the Los Angeles Public Library from 2004-2008, directing the operations, facilities, personnel, and services of Central Library and 71 branch libraries. Prior to that, she managed the largest public library building program in the nation - renovating and expanding 13 historic libraries and building 52 new branch library facilities throughout the City of Los Angeles, including Encino-Tarzana Branch. She completed all 65 libraries on time and under budget.

Ralph J, Herman, Sr., spoke on Tarzana History: Mr. Herman is a businessman and famed local historian, focusing on the San Fernando Valley, where he grew up. He's a friend of the Edgar Rice Burroughs family and loves research - exploring history of people, places, and events. He has an extensive collection of documents, and because of great community interest he has returned to expand on his presentation during the "Tarzana Centennial" in August 2012.

Allen Oshiro is a magician extraordinare, having won many awards and performed on TV, at the Magic Castle, and in many libraries. We invited him back because he performed at our 1st Library Anniversary and was just great!

David Hagopian, Branch Manager, created a display of photos and text outlining the development of the Branch Library. (View it in our Library's Lobby Display Case.)

Barbara Y. Leff displayed a Photo Gallery of Library & Friends of Library photos she had taken over the years -- 2004-2012 -- displayed in the Meeting Room, temporarily.

Temporary Tattoo Artists from "Party Faces" is a favorite of the teens so we invited them too.

LAPL Administrative Staff were invited and welcomed as our guests.

Our Library/Friends Anniversary Committee Members -- dedicated, creative, resourceful!
